Seamless gutters are less prone to leakage compared to pre-made gutter troughs that must be seamed together. A few steps go into making these durable custom-fit gutters.

1. Measuring

The key to few seams and minimal waste is proper measuring. The first task your installer will do is measure your entire home for the gutters. They begin by determining downspout locations, which will likely be placed in each corner. There may also be a need for additional downspouts on long edges or around porches. Then they will measure the distance between the downspouts to determine each trough length.

2. Trough Building

Your installer will custom-make each trough. This is done by feeding lengths of aluminum through a molding device that forms the gutter. Since each trough is made to fit the specific length of the roof eave it will sit beneath, there is no need to splice trough lengths together. This is the key to creating a seamless gutter.

3. Outlet Installation

The outlets for the downspouts are created using one of two methods. The simplest method is to connect each trough length to a premade downspout outlet. This is the most common method used for corner spouts, but it may also be used for downspouts that bisect a length of gutter trough. The other method, which is most often used for bisecting spouts, is to cut an outlet hole in the bottom of the gutter. The downspout is then installed into this hole.

4. Capping and Sealing

Once the troughs are completed, they must be capped and sealed. An end cap is placed on any trough that doesn't connect to a downspout. End caps are also needed for troughs with integrated outlet holes. This will result in a few unavoidable seams around the end caps and downspouts, which will need to be sealed with a durable waterproof silicone sealer. The sealer is allowed to cure completely.

5. Mounting

The final step is installing the gutters. Brackets will be installed on the roof eaves and the gutters will clip into these brackets. Your installer will then adjust the gutters so that they are properly aligned beneath the eaves. The gutters must also be adjusted so that they gently slope toward the downspout. The last step is attaching the downspout lengths to the proper outlets and then routing them so that the water drains as desired.
