If you are thinking about installing a single-ply roof on your building, it is essential to understand how the installation process works. In addition, there are some best practices and essential tips you should keep in mind when it comes to installing a single-ply roof.

Tip #1: Always Follow the Manufacturer's Requirements

When installing a singly ply roof, one of the most important things you need to do is read the manufacturer's instructions before starting the installation process. Most manufacturers have very specific precautions and rules to follow during the installation process for the warranty to be valid. For example, they may require you to clean the membrane before welding it in place, or they may require the material to be installed within a specific temperature range. Therefore, always review the manufacturer's instructions if you want to ensure the warranty stays valid.

Tip #2: Prepare the Surface

With a single-ply roof, you need to prepare the work surface before installing the roof. You need to ensure that the roof surface is as clean as possible before the material is installed. That means you will need to sweep the roof to get rid of any dirt and debris on the roof. If the roof is extra dirty, you are going to want to pressure wash it first. If there are any holes or cracks on the roof, those will need to be filled in. If there are any blisters, they will need to be cut out and removed.

Tip #3: Use Roofing Insulation

Next, you are going to want to use a roofing insulation board on the roof. This will help to create a barrier between your building and the roof. A roofing insulation board, or a separation sheet, will help provide your building with better insulation. It will also help protect your building from leaks and will help reduce wear on your roof. It is worth it to splurge for a roof insulation board when installing a single-ply roof.

Tip #4: Don't Keep Scorched Membrane in Place

When installing a single-ply roof, a welding process is used to attach the membrane to your roof. If any of the membranes becomes overheated and burned during the installation process, that portion of the membrane needs to be cut out and removed. Then, a new piece of membrane needs to be welded into place, with the new piece extending a few inches past the damaged area. This will create a strong roof.
